Forty nine years ago tonight...
...Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol made its broadcast debut. And speaking of being broadcast, I'm pleased to announce that after an extremely long absence from the airwaves Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol
will finally be back on television this year! Word from Classic Media
is that it won't be on one of the major networks but
syndicated through either the ME TV network or This TV network. The special
will be broadcast December 24th, Christmas Eve at 9 PM. To find out
which of your local channels will be airing the show, click here for ME TV or here for This TV. May this be the beginning of a trend!
While it is wonderful to hear that MMCC will return to the broadcast airwaves, if only for nostalgia's sake, I am more thankful to you and Classic Media for the excellent special edition DVD so that I can watch this "best animated Christmas special ever" anytime I choose, plus enjoy the commentary track and other bonuses contained on it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, the DVD is higher quality and offers more than a rebroadcast of the special. However, by running it again on TV, it will hopefully be seen by a wider audience and embraced as a Christmas tradition by a new generation.
ReplyDeleteAgreed..To have Magoo's Carol on Television in any form at least relatively cut-free, is a great thing..
ReplyDeleteDarrell:I have a question about the photo you used for this post..There was an Akron Beacon Journal cover page of Jim Backus that used the same drawings..Was this perhaps used as a template for Beacon Journal Drawing?
Darrell:
ReplyDeleteIn looking at my copy of the TV Cover Page, I am guessing the Picture You have of course is the original, and is what would have been seen if one would have bought the original Sunday Akron Beacon Journal for December 16, 1962..Nice find..
As a person who became a fan of Mr. Magoo this year, I'd like to thank Shout!, Classic Media, and even Sony for giving Mr. Magoo his due this, last, and next year. I'd also like to make a suggestion for Mr. Citters; have CBS broadcast Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol next year for it's 50th anniversary. Can it be done?
ReplyDeleteAnything is possible! Classic Media has been working on getting Christmas Carol on one of the major networks. Time will tell if they're successful.
ReplyDeleteI pulled your book from the shelf and thoroughly enjoyed pouring over it. Then today I watched Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol on MeTV. It has been a long time since I saw it last.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the work you invested in writing the book. It is a phenomenal thing for you to have sought out and contacted so many players in the making of the film.
Thanks for writing, it's always great to hear that someone enjoyed the book.
ReplyDeleteIt was no easy task tracking them all down although it was worth the effort. Gerard Baldwin had the funniest response when I finally talked to him-"You're writing a book on that? Boy, the Lord works in mysterious ways."
